LifeTracks
Sweet Caroline - Neil Diamond (Listen)
I chose the song Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond for many reasons. To start, it has played a constant role in my life. Whenever I meet people and they realize my name is Caroline, they immediately start singing the famous tune. It never gets old, no matter how many times I hear it. Other than that, it is a reminder to me. A reminder of my childhood, and the home I grew up in. We constantly had music playing throughout the house, and from my earliest childhood memory this song was playing. It reminds me of the good times I had during my childhood and throughout my teenage years.
Fur Elise - Beethoven (Listen)
I chose the minor Fur Elise by Beethoven because, like I said, my childhood consisted of constant music. Whether it was the music my parents played while cooking dinner, the songs my friends and I sang in school, or my numerous family members sitting down to the piano and playing beautiful melodies. My mother was a not a very talented musician, but when she sat down to play the sweetest melody always came from the piano. I would watch her fingers move across the keyboard and laugh while she hummed the tune along to her playing. I would twirl to the music and dance with my brothers and my dad when they would come into the room. I cherish these memories, and it became the main deciding factor for me to start playing piano. I was determined to be able to recreate the melody from those amazing days. This song influenced my decision to pick up musical instruments during my early teens.
Under the Sun - Sugar Ray (Listen)
My family has always been the most important thing in my life. My two older brother and I fought a lot during our younger years, but whenever the time came around for our family to take a road trip, all of our differences and urges to fight melted away. These vacations were very exciting, we had many traditions that we did in the car rides. Since we were all different ages, none of us had the same music taste for the most part. However, there were few songs we could agree that we loved. Under the Sun by Sugar Ray was easily one of our favorites. We would all sit back and loudly jam out to this song, and laugh when our parents did embarrassing dance moves. This song brings me back to those feel good days, laughing and enjoying life in the car with my favorite people.
I Miss You - Blink 182 (Listen)
This song has two meanings for me. I chose this song to represent all the people in my life that I have lost. This song has helped me through some difficult losses in my life. I have lost many close relatives and some friends and listening to this song reminds me of that its alright to miss someone and to want them back, but you are able to move on with your life. The other meaning for this song is the lyrics. They talk about missing the past and the way it was. It is a reminder to me that although I may miss the past and want to go back, I must keep moving forward.
Dark Paradise - Lana Del Rey (Listen)
This song is a very personal choice of mine, it exposes my junior year of high school. I was on a bad path, of which I thought was "paradise" to me. I began to slip down a path that was not who I was, and not who I wanted to be. This song shows my feelings during this time. This song is describes how dark I was and felt, and displays the paradise I was in. It was a very difficult time for me, and for those around me. I was able to pull out of it and make better decisions for my senior year, however this time will always be apart of me and it will affect every decision I make from now on.
Feel So Close - Calvin Harris (Listen)
This song is truly one of the greatest on my list. It doesn't have the best lyrics but I have had incredible times with this song. To me, it is considered to be the anthem of the summer of 2013, the best time of my life. My friends and I knew it would be my last couple of months with them before moving to Florida, and we definitely made the most of it. We said yes to any question, took advantage of every opportunity. Every adventure we could get ourselves into, we did. We took road trips, went to concerts of bands we didn't really know, stayed out all night, met new people. Carpe Diem was the motto, and we lived it. Feel So Close was the song we would jam out in the car to on the way to one of our many adventures. We also saw this song live at the beginning of our summer. Whenever this song comes on, the feelings come back of euphoria, dancing to Calvin Harris with the people I love.
World is our Playground - Vice (Listen)
I chose this song because first off, I just love it. It's energetic, and upbeat and extremely. Second of all, it completely goes with my life. I am fortunate enough to have numerous connections and opportunities to travel. Every summer since I was 9 I have travelled somewhere, whether in the United States or not. For me, the world is my playground. I've studied in Switzerland, France and London. I have family friends who allow me to stay with them in the South of France. I've been to three continents. And now, because of studying in the residential program at NBPS I have made so many more connections that I can take advantage of.
You're Gonna Miss This - Trace Adkins (Listen)
This song I chose because now that I am nearing the end of my childhood and also nearing the end of my high school career. Now is the time for me to reflect on all the lessons I've learned and everything that I've accomplished. For me, my childhood was incredible. I'm so grateful to have had an amazing childhood and I'm so sad to leave it. This song really describes how I feel about leaving my childhood, my home and my friends who I've become so accustomed too. Even the friends I've made at North Broward, my home away from home, I've become so comfortable with. I'm going to miss them all so much when I leave them next year.
Chelsea Dagger - The Fratellis (Listen)
This choice actually doesn't really have to do with the actual song. This is the song that the Chicago Blackhawks play every time they score a goal at home. Its an amazing tradition, one that I hold very dear. After that puck hits the next and the buzzer goes off, the whole crowd is screaming with delight and the chorus of the song blasts out of the speakers. There's something euphoric about an entire crowd celebrating and singing to the same song. For an entire game there are a million people together who have something in common. This is why I love sports, and this song represents that perfectly.
Electric Feel - MGMT (Listen)
I really just love this song. Its one of my all time favorite songs. I can always put me in a good mood, and I can really play it anytime. I luckily inherited my parents taste in music, so I like a lot of old rock bands, and this is a little different from those bands. Everyone loves this song, its so catchy and has just great music to it. This is a timeless song that I will continue to love and listen to in twenty years.
